It is shooting distance not focus length that changes near far side relationships. When shooting faces I will move in and out with the camera and compare how it renders the size of the nose relative to the ears then let my brain tell me which is the most flattering distance or in some case the distortion want. Then I pick the focal length which gives me the desired in camera crop. For example shooting with your 24-70mm f/2.8 from 8-9ft I can capture full length, 3/4 and head and shoulder and all three will have the same facial render. If I used a prime and moved in and out to get the crop the facial rendering would change. Changing near-far perspective really flatters a subject with non-symmetrical features. For example if one eye is larger posing the face obliquely with the smaller eye closer to the camera then moving in and out until the size appears more similar will be more flattering than a full face view where the difference becomes obvious.

85mm is more personal than the 50mm. What I mean is 85 the model is present in the picture , the 50mm on the other hand the model is among and part of the surrounding so the eyes gets drifting around the model. For me the 85 is more versatile. Zoom in to get personal or zoom out include the model and the surrounding.

Using the screen in bright sunny day instead of the viewfinder... seems to me a bit of struggling.

beginner here; since you can adjust aperture to get the same bokeh effect on both, does it not make sense to get a 50mm and move closer to the subject if you want that more personal close up view? Doesn't the distance from the subject compensate for the difference in focal length? Or am I missing something?

24mm give you smart phone look but on a difference level, 35mm give you narrower look. If you prefer photos on social media, probably you gonna prefer 24mm. For me, 24mm is always better than 35mm

What size deflector is that and where did you purchase it?

This is my favorite lens for travel. Many people nix it because of the f/4 aperture, but the point of traveling is not to get portraits, but instead highlight the background and scenery.

I love this lens. My favorite video lens of all time (after the 70-200). I bought one for my girlfriend for her birthday!

I absolutely loved that lens on my 5DmkII, but was shocked at how bad the corners looked when used on my R5 ... i really miss it!

judging by the tests, the 5D Mark IV has a much higher dynamic range and better shadow detail. Under equal shooting conditions, the aperture is half a stop faster. The 5D Mark IV makes the European type face more pink, and the RP makes it more green-yellow, which is unnoticeable on a Negroid type face, which is probably why the model is dark-skinned, to hide this nuance of color blockage.

Canon for me produces better and more natural skin tones.

These two lenses, absolutely, do not appear to be 1.8 lenses. The Canon lens, for example, appears to be a f1.2.

Why not get a neutral gray paper and use a rgb light and it can be any color you want? Cheaper long run no?

I just bought the Nikor 135 f2DC vintage lens at 2.8 to f8 it is the sharpest lens in my stable of lenses if I have the room it is my go to lens showing on a Nikon D850 Body!!

I didn't know that the 5D IV was considered 'old' now! :') I love mine and bought all my lenses with that camera in mind. I am interested in mirrorless but wouldn't even know where to start, but until then I'll cherish my Mark IV and will be sad the day it becomes a 'backup'.

I think when the R5mkii is released the second hand price of the 5Dmkiv will drop.

The 5D IV was the camera where Canon really kicked up the IQ to match the best that Nikon and Sony had. It was a big jump from the 5D III when it came to dynamic range and high ISO noise. My only issue was that the AF wasn't the most reliable, especially with third party lenses. I got the R but the IQ wasn't quite as good as the 5D IV as the R had a bit more noise, slightly less flattering colours, and exhibited shadow banding sometimes. The great thing though about the R system is that you can use all your EF lenses and those third party lenses really shine adapted to the R system. I have 3 Sigma Art lenses adapted to the R6 II and it NEVER misses focus, ever and the Sigma Art 50 1.4 is actually faster focusing than the native RF 50's , and it's 3x cheaper than the RF 50 1.2 (and the IQ is just as good).
